The ACE is the point which the tennis player gets directly with his service, so that with his stroke, that is the incipit of the play; the ball, hit by a fixed player to serve, touches the ground in the right rectangular, without touching the net or being touched (nor brushed against) by the racket or the body of the opponent. And it’s point!
I’ve always wondered why the British have wanted to give this shot the image that in the game of cards has the “ace” … from which the word: “ACE”; they want to say that, with this stroke, the player has played “the ace”, immediately realizing the winning point.
Actually, if you don’t stop to appearance and you want to go deeper into this situation of play, it is possible to find out that stroke is more in harmony with the word “ICE”; it is, in fact, an iced stroke, iced, or better, icing for whom put up with it … (but also for who is watching is as a “spectator)… assuming “DIFFERENT SHADES.
This is the key to observe this sequence of paintings.

The “situation of the ACE” is, anyway, told and described in some passages of the author ( see for a prompt example in the section e-book “ TENNIS SCARS” the passages: “Ladies and Gentlemen’s Mister Castelli, to serve (…)” e “4 FAULTS IN A ROW” ).
